Baan Hom Samunphrai ~ I have accepted an internship at my Thai massage school in Chiang Mai, Thailan
Here is a video made of my school, where I will be studying Thai massage techniques, steaming (in the herbal steam bath), and retreating! I leave September 7th, 2017 and will return to Telluride December 17th 2017.
I will first attend a 150 hr. Thai Massage Course that concentrates on fundamental parts of Thai Traditional Massage from September 11, 2017 until October 5th, 2017. We also get introduced to acupressure elements and move on to shoulders, head and the abdomen. I first attended this course in November 2015, so this will be a wonderful review and opportunity to get familiar with my role as a live in intern at the school and to practice side by side my teachers, Homprang and Baan.
After my first course, I will take a 10 day vacation to Vietnam, where my boyfriend will be meeting me.
October 17th-29th I will be attending an 80 hour course, "Technique for the Advanced Students and Professionals". This is a couse for practitioners with a lot of experience who want to extend and/or renew themselves by deepening what they have been doing for years. The focus will be on touch, balance and fluency with a special emphasis on how to protect oneself and lengthen one's professional life, enhance one's pleasure in the work and of course ones effectiveness with the client or patient.
After completing the second course, we will celebrate Loi Krathong, a festival celebrated annually throughout southwestern Thai cultures. The name could be translated as "to float a basket", and comes from the tradition of making krathong or buoyant, decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river. I will make an additional blog post about the festival with some pictures in November.
The third two week course begins November 1st and it is an 80 hour Thai Massage course with Janet Peacock and is titled, " Advanced Study Group" because it is for students who have already completed a whole Thai massage training course with Janet Peacock.
The final 3 week course starts November 20th and goes until December 14th. It is the 150 hour "Special Therapeutic Massage Course", which introduces special acupressure techniques that can be used to treat serious conditions including migraine, numbness, stroke effects, intractable back conditions, and many other elements not usually addressed by Thai Massage.
